Windows XP Home Edition:
The new Windows Vista Edition will be due out around
December. If you buy in early 2007 your computer may
come already equipped with Windows Vista. If you buy
before you may want to make sure that your Windows version
is upgradeable to Windows Vista should you decide to upgrade
down the road.
-
Intel Pentium D 805 with Dual Core Technology:
Dual Core Technology is a new processor by Intel that has to
processing chips inside. It allows two acting
processors to run your computer spreading out the job rather
than having one processor do all of the work.
-
512 Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM:
The
RAM can
range from 256MB up to 4 GB. 512MB will run noticeably
faster than 256MB and will soon become the minimum offered
in new computers. RAM is easy to upgrade later on so
if you buy now make your absolute minimum 512MB and be
prepared to upgrade down the road.
-
60-80 Gigabytes
of Hard Drive space:
Once again this becomes the minimum KGI Solutions would
recommend. If you feel that you may be able to fill up
all 80GB of your hard drive then upgrade to more drive
space. Replacing or upgrading your hard drive can be
difficult so get as much as you think you need.
-
USB Ports:
USB ports are used for most of your peripheral devices now,
printers, mouse, keyboards, and many other devices.
Make sure your computer has more than 3 USB ports.
Having USB ports in the front is definitely a nice addition.
-
Optical Mouse:
An
optical mouse uses an LED to track the motion for moving
your cursor on the screen. With an optical mouse there
is no need for a mouse pad. The optical mouse does not
have a tracking ball either so there is no need to clean the
mouse or you will not have to worry about the cursor
skipping because the ball is dirty.
-
CD Re-Writable
Drive:
The Re-Writable CD
drive will allow you to make/burn your own CDs. This
could be important for backing up data or for transferring
data.
-
17" Inch Analog
Flat Panel Monitor:
Flat panel
monitors are the new trend in the computer world. They
take up less desk space, they look better, you come in a
variety of sizes, and they offer a great quality
picture. 15" is the smallest size, 17" is a good size
but we prefer the 19" or greater.
-
Black Laser
Printer, preferably an All-in-One with copier/scanner/fax:
The
black laser printer will print 3 times faster than an inkjet
printer. Laser printers print using a toner which will
also allow you to print more before having to buy another
cartridge. The All-in-One printer is the best solution
for an independent dealership. You will be able to
print your forms, make scan drivers licenses, and make
copies of your deals.

Even
if you would prefer to find your computers or other
peripherals on your own we would still like to help you get
the best deals you can get. Here are a few links that
we use ourselves and may be able to assist you in your
purchases.
Newegg.com
We
order a lot of hardware from Newegg and they have been
great. We have never ran into a problem with
ordering and shipping. It is also a popular
website so many of the products listed on it will come
with User Reviews listing the Pros and Cons for that
item.
Dell.com
Dell
computers seem to be the best valued computers on the
market these days. We would suggest that you only
buy a computer that is on sale or comes with the monitor
in the price. That is where you will find the best
deal.
Techforless.com
This
website is similar to Newegg and will have many
different products available for you to choose from.
Shipping is quick and inexpensive and we have not had
any problems with orders from this website either.
